Singapore ship aground on Thai Far South shore, no losses
NARATHIWAT, THAILAND, January 26 (TNA) - A Singapore cargo ship, carrying rocks, has been found aground onshore in Narathiwat Province in the Thai Far South, apparently caused by continual downpours, high waves and strong wind offshore.
Santhana Chanthorn, Chief of Narathiwat's Marine Office, told journalists that Monday night's incident took place as the Singapore ship was swept by the high waves to be aground on the Narathat Beach in the southernmost Thai province.
Santhana said the cargo ship encountered the incident while sailing back to Singapore, but there were no casualties or damage.
Santhana stated that after the situation returns to normal, Thai marine officers would help move the Singapore ship back to the sea.
According to the senior official, Thai marine authorities have earlier issued a warning for ships sailing through Narathiwat's offshore to beware of high waves of up to 3-4 metres currently, which have also caused local businesses along the Narathat Beach to have temporarily closed for safety.
Meanwhile, downpours were continuing with high waves offshore the southern Thai Nakhon Si Thammarat and Narathiwat Provinces on Tuesday morning. (TNA)
