SUCCESS FOR M'SIAN UNIVERSITY AT INVENTION SHOW
MELAKA (Malaysia), Jan 8 (Bernama) -- The Technical University of Malaysia
(UTeM) did the country proud when it brought home two gold medals from the 2008
British Invention Show in Hertforsdshire, United Kingdom, recently.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor Associate Professor Dr Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah said
their Full Scaled Quater Car Test Rig won a gold medal while their Magnetic
Brake Sistem received a double-gold medal.
"The projects were managed Dr Ir Khisbullah Hudha from the Mechanical
Engineering Faculty and the Smart Material And Automotive Control Research Group
(SMAC)," he told reporters at the UTeM campus in this southern city Wednesday.
Abu Bakar said the Magnetic Brake Sistem was created in line with the
technological development used by cars, which is brake by wire, to replace the
current hydraulic and mechanical system.
"The system uses a special liquid, the Magnethorelogical Fluid or MR Fluid,
which allows wheels to brake efficiently," he said.
He said the Full Scaled Quater Car Test Rig was designed to test a vehicle's
suspension system, whether it used a passive suspension, semi-active suspension
or fully active suspension.
"It also functions to test the surface of uneven roads," he said.
Abu Bakar added that Dr Khisbullah was also carrying out several other
studies, such as the Development of Active Vehicle Bumper System for Crash,
expected to be finished by end of the year.
