Nearly 40 Thai provinces brace for new cold snap Feb 2-7
BANGKOK, February 1 (TNA) - As a new cold snap is likely to strike 37 Thai provinces during February 2-7, 2016, the Ministry of Interior has ordered the governors of the provinces to cope with the cold weather.
Permanent Secretary for Interior Grisada Boonrach told journalists on Monday that he has issued the urgent order for the governors of the 37 Thai provinces in the North and the Northeast to cope with the cold weather.
Grisada said he told the provincial governors to inform their people of the official weather forecast so that they will take good care of their health and protect their property from strong wind during the period, while people who make bonfires for their warmth are also advised to take precautions to prevent fire.
According to the senior official, he also ordered the provincial governors to survey local people's demand for winter gear and seek such supplies from regional disaster prevention and mitigation offices to meet the public demand.
Besides, the provincial governors have been ordered to put relevant officials on standby to provide affected people with quick assistance and to report their actions to the ministry's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation. (TNA)
