KPK ARRESTS FORMER FINANCE DIRECTOR OF PT RNI



Jakarta, Jan 8 (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) arrested former finance director of PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia (RNI) Ranendra Dangin on Thursday for alleged corruption.
Ranendra had been named a suspect in an alleged corruption case in sugar imports carried out by PT RNI in cooperation with the state logistics board Bulog.
He is now held in a detention house in Cipinang, East Jakarta.
Ranendra's laywer, Tommy Sihotang, said the policy of the sugar imports which were carried out in the 2001 - 2004 period could not be separated from Bulog's role.
Earlier, the KPK had named Ranendra Dangin a suspect in the sugar import case.
KPK spokesman Johan Budi said the suspect was believed to have tried to enrich himself through the sugar import activities which were done from 2001 to 2004.
"The suspect is believed to have unlawully earned some Rp4.3 billion from the import activities," Johan said.
The value of the sugar imports from 2001 to 2004 was estimated at Rp33 billion.
The imports were done in cooperation between PT RNI as importer and Bulog as distributor.
On the allegation, Ranendra is likely to be charged with article 2 point (1), or article 3, or article 8 of Law No.31 / 1999 as amended by Law No. 20 / 2001 on the Eradication of Corruption Crimes.
Johan said that KPK had up to now named only one suspect in the alleged corruption case.
