Protesters to hold activities against construction of coal power plants in Songkhla
SONGKHLA, Feb 20 (TNA) -- Leader of the Southernmost People's Network of Community Right and Environment Safeguard for Peace of Thepa district in the southern province of Songkhla said that the network would protest against the construction of the Thepa coal power plant and a deep sea port for the delivery of coal.
The network leader in Thepa district, Direk Hemnakhon said the network has planned to organise activities to express its disagreement with the building of the Thepa Coal Power Plant, as well as a deep sea port for delivery of coal for the plant.
The network has been rallying against it in Bangkok for the past week.
Mr Direk said a demonstration would be carried out on Sunday in the vicinity of the Thepa Municipality, in order to inform local villagers of the impacts that the coal power plants would cause to the city.
He said that in the afternoon, a public stage would also be set up for talks under the title, "Thepa Coal Power Plant, Development or Disaster", which would be attended by the people and students of the five southernmost province who are against the idea of having a power plant situated in the area.
