SYRIA SEEKS HELP TO SET UP BOURSE

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 10 (Bernama) -- The Syrian government has invited experts from Bursa Malaysia to advise the country on setting up a stock exchange.

Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad, Naji Otri, said he was impressed by Bursa
Malaysia when he made a visit earlier.

"We just visited Bursa Malaysia and this reminded us that we are starting
the Damascus Stock Exchange in three months' time.

"We have invited experts from Bursa Malaysia to come and help us establish
an exchange," he said.

Otri urged Malaysians to invest in Syria.

"We welcome a transfer of technology and collaboration between the two
countries.

"During the talks with Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi we agreed on the need
to have more collaborations and cooperation in areas like science, technology,
education and infrastructure.

"Currently, many agreements and memorandums of understanding had been signed
between the Syrian government and Malaysian companies.

"Among them are to help develop our water treatment, sewege sector and a
10,000 housing unit project," he said.
