INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF YOUTH LEADERS ON VIOLENCE IN FEBRUARY
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 10 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will hold the International Conference of Youth Leaders on violence on Feb 27 to identify the causes and to discuss and correct misconceptions on the issue.
Information Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek and Youth and Sports Minister
Ismail Sabri Yaakob, in a joint press statement, said the three-day conference
with the theme, "Youth For World Peace", would focus on topics such as why
youths become violent or get involved in violent activities.
"Do they act on their on accord or are there other causal factors? The role
of national and international bodies in curbing violence among youths will also
be discussed," the statement said.
The conference, jointly organised by the two ministries, had been planned
since last year and has become even more relevant now and timely due to the
developments in the Gaza Strip.
The conference will enable youths to voice their opinions and make proposals
to the international community.
Besides that, the participants will be able to share views and experiences
through the presentation of case studies and and following discussions.
The conference resolutions will be submitted to United Nations Educational,
Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) through the chairman of the
Malaysian National Commission on Unesco, Hishammuddin Hussein, who is also
Education Minister.
The statement said former world leaders, serving and former journalists from
the world's major newspapers, and local and foreign reseachers were among those
invited to present papers at the conference.
