WRONG TO GET COUNTRIES MEDDLE IN DOMESTIC AFFAIRS

KOTA TINGGI (Malaysia), Jan 10 (Bernama) -- Malaysian citizens should not get other countries to intervene in Malaysia's domestic affairs, Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar said Saturday.

"As Malaysian citizens we should be loyal to the country," he said when
commenting on media reports of P. Waytha Moorthy, the self-proclaimed leader of
the outlawed Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf), asking the Indian government
to impose trade sanctions against Malaysia.

Waytha Moorthy, who is on a self-imposed exile abroad, had called for trade
sanctions against Malaysia as punishment for what he claimed was ill-treatment
of Malaysian Indians in the country.

The person calling for the trade sanctions has the choice of remaining a
Malaysian citizen or becoming the citizen of another country, Syed Hamid told
reporters after launching a "gotong-royong" (self-help) campaign in a village in
this southern town.

Waytha Moorthy had called for the sanctions at the conference of the Indian
Diaspora in Chennai, India, attended by about 1,600 delegations from 46
countries.

On another matter, Syed Hamid, who is the Kota Tinggi MP, said discussions
would be held with the relevant government agencies on the provision of a
pedestrian walkway at the Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine
(CIQ) complex, the southern entry point to Malaysia.
