Thailand joins '60+ Earth Hour 2016' energy saving campaigns

BANGKOK, March 15 (TNA) -- The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has planned to hold activities to mark energy saving campaigns '60+ Earth Hour 2016' on March 19. Bangkok Deputy Governor Amorn Kitchawengkul presided over the press conference informing the public of the 60+ Earth Hour 2016 activities, under the theme " Your Power Can Change the World for the Better" on March 19 at the C square ground of Central World shopping centre in Bangkok's Pathumwan district. The deputy governor also used the opportunity to invite the public and shops to join in with the activity in temporary turning off unnecessary electricity usage, such as decoration and advertising, as well as street lights for an hour from 8.30-9.30 pm, Thailand's time. The general public would also be able to enjoy a cycling activity to promote the 60+ Earth Hour 2016 activities from March 14-18 in various locations. The 60+ Earth Hour 2015 was able to help reduce electricity usage by 1,940 megawatts, along with help to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1,127 tonnes, helping Thailand to save almost 7.5 million baht. For this year, the BMA has targeted to reduce electricity usage by over 2,000 megawatts, while also planning to encourage the people to turn off their electricity for an hour at the same time every day for the whole year to help reduce the state of global warming.
