Chiang Mai asks public to enjoy Songkran economically
CHIANG MAI, March 17 (TNA) -- Thailand's northern Chaing Mai province is hurriedly dredging the city moats off sediments in order to pump in water into them ahead of the Songkran Festival 2016.
Deputy Mayor of Chiang Mai City Chatree Chuamanocharn said authorities have been mobilised to bring in backhoe leaders to start dredging the sediments from local moats,w which should take about 3 days, before the city would start pumping water back into the moats and improve the quality of the water ahead of the upcoming Songkran Festival.
The deputy mayor said the dredging is aimed to ensure the public and tourists of the best water quality during the festival, so that everyone would be able enjoy the Thai New Year full of happiness an confidence.
However, the deputy mayor has asked both the local residents and tourists to also help economise the use water during the festival, as Thailand has been hit by the worst drought this year.
He said activities during Songkran this year would be focused on traditional and cultural ones which are considered the charms of the Lanna culture. (TNA)
