Nakhon Ratchasima to hold 1 day of Songkran celebrations

NAKHON RATCHASIMA, March 17 (TNA) -- Thailand's northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima or Korat has announced that it would holding one day of Songkran celebrations, as drought continues to plague the nation, while affirming that it has no plans from preventing anyone from enjoying the water splashing fun, but would like the public to use water wisely. Mayor of Nakhon Ratchasima City Surawut Cherdchai said that the city would be holding only one days of Songkran celebrations from its usual 3-day long festival this year on March 13, at the Thao Suranaree Monument and Suranaree park. He said the festival would be held as usual, where the people would be able to enjoy the water splashing, but the days have cut short as the country remained to be devastated by the ongoing drought, which could only get worse. He noted that as the water sources are dwindling this year, the city would not be providing water refill stations for festival goers like prior years to help preserve water. The mayor then asked the public to enjoy themselves as usual during the festival and advised them not to use water from moats to join in with the water splashing for their own safety. He then asked for cooperation from the public in economising the use of water, as the water level at the Lam Chae Dam has decreased gravely and must be properly manged in order for the province to survive this year's harsh drought.
