MAB Kargo, Silk Way West Airlines Ink Block Space Agreement

SEPANG (Selangor, Malaysia), March 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airlines Bhd's (MAB) cargo arm MAB Kargo Sdn Bhd sealed a pact Thursday with Azerbaijan's cargo carrier Silk Way West Airlines to leverage on each other's aircraft fleet and network in different regions of the world. The cooperation entails a Block Space Agreement (BSA) on a twice weekly route to and from Kuala Lumpur and Amsterdam via Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Azerbaijan. The weekly flights are on Thursday and Sunday. The memorandum of cooperation was inked here between MAB Kargo Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi and Silk Way West Airlines CEO Kamran Gasimov. Ahmad Luqman in his speech said the partnership would have a direct positive impact on both countries' economies, trade and tourism. He said MAB Kargo has a solid network and would continue to serve key Asian and Australian markets with its Airbus A330-200F freighters. "This partnership with Silk Way West will provide MAB Kargo synergistic benefits by expanding our wings to new destinations such as Baku and Tehran, and serve familiar markets such as Frankfurt, Malpensa, Vienna, Istanbul and New York," he added. Gasimov told reporters that the cooperation marks a new expansion for Silk Way West Airlines in Southeast Asia and the Pacific region. "Silk Way West is expecting good results and good collaboration with MAB Kargo," he added. Silk Way West's B747-800 freighter was given a water cannon salute when it made the inaugural touchdown at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 4.30 pm Thursday. -- BERNAMA
