TV market in Thailand to grow in 2016

BANGKOK, March 19 (TNA) -- Despite rising household debts and saturation of housing market, sales of television set in Thailand are expected to rise in 2016, according to a report issued by Kasikorn Research Centre. The report said sales of telly in Thailand this year are projected at between 2.98 – 3.01 million sets, up about 1.6 – 2.9 per cent from 2015. Value of sales this year is around 32.7-33.2 billion baht, an increase of between 0.6 – 2 per cent from last year. Major factors which would push up TV sales in the kingdom are attributed to people wanting to watch the Uefa Euro 2016 football championship to be held in France between June 10 – July 10 and the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics to be held in Brazil’s Rio De Janeiro from August 5 – 21, it said. Also, a sharp reduction in prices of TV big screens and their ability to connect with an internet have induced people to buy, said Kasikorn Research Centre. However, the Centre suggested that TV manufacturers have to design their products which would be easier to connect with content online services and with other electronic devices, allowing the viewers to access to domestic and foreign programmes easier.
