Ubon Ratchathani to hold Songkran festival for only 3 days
UBON RATCHATHANI, March 26 (TNA) -- The Ubon Ratchathani Municipality has announced that the Songkran water festival would only be held here for three days only this year, an effort to help preserve water during the continuing drought crisis.
Mayor of Ubon Ratchathani City Municipality Ms Somprattana Vikraicherdcharoen said the municipality would be holding the 19th Songkran and Thai-Indochina Food festivals between April 12-15 as usual for visitors to shop for their favourite local cuisine, though the water splashing event on the Dok Mai and Sai Nam roads would be held for only three days from April 13-15, from the usual 5 day celebrations.
The opening time of the water splashing event will also change this year, from 7am-9pm to only 1-6pm, a bid to help preserve more water for the country during the ongoing crisis.
The mayor said although the Ubon Ratchathani Provincial Waterworks Authority office has affirmed that there is enough water in the Mun River to produce tap water to meet public demands within the provincial seat and Warin Chamrap district
However, she said, the effort to help economise the use of water should help increase the water sources to ensure that the downstream areas would have enough water to last through the drought season. (TNA)
