WASHINGTON DC, April 2 (TNA) -- Thailand promotes nuclear summit while the country plans to enforce a new nuclear energy law this month which would enable it to become a member of the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha told participants attending the 4th Nuclear Security Summit held in Washington DC.
Gen Prayut said the enforcement of the new law would also entitle Thailand to become a member of the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material.
The Thai government would act on everything possible to help strengthened nuclear security.
He said his government is also amending related laws such as regulations for the Office of Atoms for Peace and is also drafting a law on suppressing nuclear terrorism.
The laws would base on international atomic energy standards.
Earlier, the Thai government has issued a new law on export of dual-use goods which empowered customs officials to inspect suspicious looking goods and to also coordinate with concerned government agencies in preventing transportation of suspicious goods in to the country, said Gen Prayut.
