Malaysia Continues To Chart Growth Despite Global Economic Headwinds - Perlis Chief Minister
KANGAR (Perlis, Malaysia), April 5 (Bernama) -- Malaysia continues to chart consistent and positive growth despite the current global economic headwinds.
Perlis Chief Minister Azlan Man said allegations that the country's economy was heading nowhere and faces bankruptcy is contrary to the current trend.
"Although the economy has not expanded in a big way, its movement is nevertheless consistent. I am confident it will get better.
"This positive growth has been reinforced by international rating agencies such as Standard and Poor's, Moody's and Fitch Ratings, who feel the fundamentals surrounding Malaysia's economy and financial position is strong and encouraging," he added.
Azlan told reporters this after attending the state's monthly gathering here Tuesday.
He also urged the people to not base the country's economic position based on information from those who did not have the facts or disagreed with the government.
"Bank Negara Malaysia (Malaysia's Central Bank) said the country's economy expanded five per cent last year.
"It was the best among many countries with even China only achieving a 6.5 per cent growth," said Azlan. Perlis is northernmost state in peninsular Malaysia.
