KUALA LUMPUR, May 9 (Bernama) -- The Global Science and Innovation Advisory Council (GSIAC) will meet in London on May 17 to discuss the well-being of Malaysians in the new world economy, as well as, jobs and wealth generation. In a statement, GSIAC Malaysia said the meeting would be under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Najib Razak, and he would also deliver the GSIAC Distinguished Lecture themed, "Global Competitiveness, Malaysia’s Aspiration". "A key focus of the discussions this year is how to foster the well-being of Malaysians in the new world economy, characterised by new forms of industry and jobs. "Moderated by Imperial College London President Professor Alice Gast, the group will deliberate on the positioning of Malaysia as a nation that is competitive, sustainable and innovative, as well as, the ingredients of that success," GSIAC Malaysia said. The second key topic would be sustainable job creation and wealth generation, to be moderated by Professor Noor Azlan Ghazali, a member of Bank Negara Malaysia's (Malaysia's Central Bank) Monetary Policy Committee and Vice-Chancellor, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Other highlights of the meeting includes the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Malaysia and the United States Council on Competitiveness, and a reception at the British Council to highlight the Newton-Ungku Omar Fund. Run by the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), the mandate of the GSIAC, is to help Malaysia identify and pursue sustainable means for achieving high-income status by 2020. -- BERNAMA
