Malaysia's Sarawak State To Gain From China-ASEAN Cooperation, Says Consul-General

KUCHING (Sarawak, Malaysia), May 12 (Bernama) -- Sarawak has benefitted greatly from China-ASEAN cooperation with more Chinese companies actively participating in the state's economy, says China Consul-General in Kuching Fu Ji Jun. He said several Chinese companies had expressed their interest to invest more than US$2.48 billion (RM10 billion) in several projects in the state. (US$1 = RM4.01) "These projects, which will be carried out in phases, will further promote mutual benefits for China-Sarawak cooperation," he said at the opening of the ASEAN-China Entrepreneurs Conference here Thursday. Fu said Chinese investments were notable in the construction of energy infrastructure, agriculture, forestry, fishery and property development. "I will make sure that the Chinese Consulate-General here will continue to assume their role to support these companies and hope this will be reciprocated by the state government, local business community and people of Sarawak," he said. On the conference, Fu said it would serve as a platform for participants to exchange business information and establish their network. "I was made to understand that a total of 10 memorandums of understanding will be signed during the conference," he added. The two-day conference is attended by more than 500 entrepreneurs from Malaysia and other ASEAN countries, as well as, China. -- BERNAMA
