Government will build Food Innopolis

BANGKOK, May 18 (TNA) -- The cabinet resolved on May 16 to develop an innovative food industry city called Food Innopolis and ordered governmental organizations to work out promotional privileges for local and international investors. The resolution was aimed at improving the Thai food industry as basic farm products are cheap and market demands for them are uncertain. These factors affect farmers and operators in the agricultural sector. Food Innopolis will be a research and development center for food products and labour with relevant skills. With the project, Thailand will export quality food products worldwide as it has plentiful raw materials. The project is set to be realized on a 200-rai plot at the Thailand Science Park in Khlong Luang district of Pathum Thani province in five years or in 2021. The government hopes the project will create at least 100 start-up enterprises and economic value worth at least 270 billion baht. It should employ at least 2,000 local and foreign researchers and specialists and attract at least 35 billion baht of investment in research and development. The government gives 3.66 billion baht to realise the project. (TNA)
