Malaysian Minister Mah Leads Palm Oil, Rubber Mission To China

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Mah Siew Keong, is leading the Palm Oil and Rubber Promotion Mission to China from today until Aug 11, 2016. In a statement Monday, the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities said the delegation comprised representatives from the ministry, Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) and Malaysian Rubber Export Promotion Council and the private sector. "The mission aims to strengthen palm oil and rubber exports to China and promote business linkages between the private sector in Malaysia and its counterparts in China," it said. The ministry said during the mission, Mah will officiate and deliver a keynote address at the Malaysia–China Palm Oil Trade Fair and Seminar, or POTS China 2016, in Tianjin. The event, jointly organised by MPOB and MPOC, aimed to congregate the various stakeholders in the palm oil industry, it said. "The event will be a platform to enhance and promote trade in palm oil through dissemination of information on the latest developments in the industry," it said. It said Mah will also officiate the 5th Palm Oil Health and Nutrition Forum and Seminar on Managing Infection Control -- Selecting the Right Gloves, also in Tianjin. "During his visit to Tianjin, Mah is expected to convene a bilateral discussion with Tianjin Mayor, Huang Xingguo. "The discussion is aimed at exploring opportunities to further strengthen export of palm oil and other commodities products," it said. The ministry said China was an important export destination for Malaysia's commodity products with export of palm oil products valued at US$1.91 billion (RM7.73 billion) in 2015. "The main products exported are palm oil, oleochemicals, palm kernel oil and finished products. "In 2015, rubber product exports to China were valued at US$1.29 billion (RM5.24 billion) with natural rubber, synthetic rubber and gloves are among the main products exported to China," it said. --BERNAMA
