13 die of dengue fever and malaria in Champasak
(KPL) Last year thirteen people in Champassak province succumbed to malaria and dengue fever and the total number of people who were stricken by these two diseases was 1,636.
Head of Insect Science Division of the Malaria Station of the province, Ms. Phonsay Vannapaseut said in 2006 there were 1,665 malaria and dengue patients but there were only two deaths.
Ms Phonsay also said that the increase in the number of deaths last year was due to the fact that some patients decided to self-medicate themselves and sought treatment from traditional medical practitioners.
