South Korea gives US$3 million to build children’s hospital in Laos

(KPL) President of the Korean International Co-operation Agency (KOICA), Mr Park Dae-Won made a courtesy visit to Prime Minister, Mr Bouasone Bouphavanh last Friday.
Mr Won is on a two-day visit to Laos, 16 to 17 January to meet government leaders and officials to discuss new projects, especially in education and public health.
He has a packed schedule as he would be visiting the Lao-Korea Vocational Training Center, the site of Lao-Korea Children’s Hospital Construction Project, Mother and Children’s Hospital and he would also see the Minister of Planning and Investment.
He would also be attending the ground-breaking ceremony of the Phonghong District Irrigation Project Group in Vientiane Province.
When he visited the Lao-Korea Vocational Training Center on 16 January he presented four cars, computers, printers and teaching materials and they are valued at US$ 800,000.
After this, he went to see the site for the proposed Lao-Korea Children’s Hospital, located near Mithaphab hospital.
The proposal to build the US$3 million Lao-Korea Children’s Hospital is part of the Republic of Korea’s effort to enhance cooperation between the two nations through health care service development.
Construction will start in February 2009 and its completion date is 2010.
