Thai rice exports stand over 5m tonnes in seven months

BANGKOK, September 3 (TNA) - The Thai Rice Exporters Association (TREA) reports that the country's rice exports had exceeded 5 million tonnes during the first seven months of this year. According to a latest TREA report released on September 2, Thailand's exports of rice during the January-July period totaled about 5.44 million tonnes, a 4.7 per cent year-on-year increase. In terms of value, Thai rice exports earned the country about 85.82 billion baht during the same period, a 2.5 per cent year-on-year increase. TREA acknowledged, meanwhile, that rice trade on the world market has faced a slowdown due to impacts from the global economic downturn. (TNA)
