Lao electricity receives award
(KPL) The Department of Electricity, the Ministry of Energy and Mines, has won International Standard Award from the Japanese International Cooperation Agency for its work on the Lao Electricity Power Technical Standards (LETS) project.
The awarding ceremony was held on Monday. Present at the event were Deputy Minister of Energy and Mines Mr Somboune Rasasombath and representatives of JICA to Laos and relevant officials of both sides.
Head of Electricity Department Mr Vilaphon Viravong said, this award was very important to the contribution to developing energy sector, particularly electricity and ensuring that it could meet international standards.
LETS was implemented as a ministerial decree after being approved by the Minister of Industry and Handicrafts (now the Ministry of Industry and Commerce) in February 2004. In order to carry out the project, peripheral regulations had to be improved together with capacity building for the power sector.
