IFC Appoints Azam Khan As Country Manager For Indonesia And Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 6 (Bernama) -- The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, has appointed Azam Khan as Country Manager for Indonesia and Malaysia.
He will be based in Jakarta and replaces Sarvesh Suri who completed his assignment in June.
"Both countries have great potential and by capitalising their synergies, we can provide an enormous impetus to key drivers of growth in the region," Khan said in a statement Tuesday.
The IFC has had a presence in Indonesia since 1968 and mobilised US$6.6 billion in funding for private sector investment in Southeast Asia's largest economy.
It aims to increase the country's portfolio to around a billion US dollars a annually should the economy continue to move at the current trajectory.
In Malaysia, the IFC plans to ramp up its activities and leverage on the country's burgeoning economy, as it transitions into a regional economic powerhouse.
IFC Director for East Asia and Pacific, Vivek Pathak said going forward, the IFC would remain focused on increasing its portfolio in infrastructure, renewable energy, manufacturing and financial sectors.
"With his extensive experience and expertise, I am confident that Khan will be able to further enhance our presence and contributions in both countries," he added.
Prior to joining IFC, Khan pursued an extensive career in engineering and finance in Pakistan and the Middle East.
