Total Vehicle Sales In August 2016 Eases To 52,312 Units - MAA

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 (Bernama) -- Total vehicle sales in August 2016 declined to 52,312 units from 53,459 units in the same month last year, the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) said. MAA, in a statement on Tuesday, said sales volume in August this year, however, was 23.2 per cent higher than the previous month due to longer working month and new model launches. "For passenger vehicles, sales in August eased to 46,223 units compared with 47,309 units in the same month last year. "Commercial vehicle sales decreased to 6,089 units compared with 6,150 units in August last year," it said. MAA said total vehicle production was down to 43,452 units in August from 49,335 units in the same month last year. "The August passenger vehicle production eased to 39,987 units from 44,812 units in the same month in 2015. The commercial vehicle production in August 2016 dropped to 3,465 units from 4,523 units a year ago," it said. On outlook, MAA said sales volume for September 2016 is expected to maintain at the August month level due to the introduction of new models and continuation of aggressive promotional campaigns by car companies. --BERNAMA
