Oscar Travel To Attract More Tourists To Kenya

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Oscar Travel Services Sdn Bhd, a general sales agent for Kenya Airways Ltd, is attracting more Malaysians to visit Kenya by participating in local tourism fairs. Oscar Travel Director Glory Marthandan said the number of Malaysian tourists and business travellers visiting Kenya had improved between 30 per cent and 40 per cent over the years due to greater promotion carried out by various travel agencies. "Besides that, the number of meetings and conferences held in Kenya also went up in recent years, and this has attracted more travellers to the country," she told reporters after the opening of the Kenya Airways office here, Friday. The Kuala Lumpur-based office, which is Kenya Airways' fifth office in the region, aims to attract more transit passengers to travel with the airline. Marthandan said currently, there were no direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. "Travellers can fly to Bangkok for a connecting flight to Nairobi with Kenya Airways, which offers three direct flights daily to the city," she said. She said the flight, which took eight hours, was the shortest way for Malaysians to reach Kenya. Besides the new office in Kuala Lumpur, the airline has offices in Hanoi, Bangkok, Guangzhou and Hong Kong, where it offers direct flights to Nairobi from the four cities. The airline offers domestic connectivity in Kenya, where it is linked to 48 destinations where travellers could explore wildlife, nature and safari tourism. Kenya Airways, currently a public-private partnership, has a fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners. -- BERNAMA
