Royal Thai Navy joins forces with Korean shipyard to develop Thai docks
BANGKOK, Oct 1 (TNA) -- The Royal Thai Navy (RTN) and a Korean shipyard have inked a cooperation agreement on the sustainable development for shipyards and docks in Thailand.
RTN Commander-in-Chief Admiral Na Arreenich presided over the signing of the agreement between Bangkok Dock Co, Ltd, represented by Captain Pichayen Tanprasert, Daewoo Shipping Building and Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. (DSME)'s Deog-Soo Kim and Hi-Tech AJ Holding Co, Ltd managing director Anurak Intharapuwasak, in which the Director of the Royal Thai Naval Dockyard Headquarter Vice Admiral Sutthinan Sakulpuchapong, and Director of the Engineering Development Department Rear Admiral Samarom Chansuwan had attended the ceremony as witnesses for the inking of the agreement at the RTN Headquarter.
The objective of the agreement is to create cooperation in sustainable dockyard development between RTN, Bangkok Dock, DSME, and Hi-Tech AJ Holding, in which the RTN would relay the responsibility to the Royal Thai Naval Dockyard Headquarter in developing sustainable shipyards in the country, through cooperation between all sides in order to improve the capabilities and potential of the naval dockyard in ship repairs, building, and modifications.
The cooperation would also be in line with RTN's 2015-2024 strategic plan, which focuses on infrastructure development and providing support to cover all operational areas in both the Thai Gulf and Andaman sea, as well as coincides with the government's 20-year national development plan in turning Thailand into a hub of the region, as well as increase the country's competitiveness in the Southeast Asian region.
