Malaysian Ringgit Closes Lower Against US Dollar

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian ringgit ended easier against the US dollar on lack of demand as most market participants remained on the sidelines ahead of the release of US non-farm data, which is expected to favour the greenback on Friday. Players abstained from taking up major positions until a clear direction was available. However, a positive set of statistics will indicate that the US federal Reserve was more likely to increase interest rates by year-end," said a dealer. At 6pm, the ringgit was quoted at 4.1400/1470 against the greenback from 4.1350/1420 on Wednesday. Meanwhile, against other major currencies, the ringgit was traded mostly higher. It was marginally higher against the Singapore dollar to 3.0173/0230 from Wednesday's 3.0174/0229 and rose against the euro to 4.6285/6368 from 4.6395/6482 yesterday. The local note depreciated against the British pound to 5.2632/2733 from 5.2585/2678 and appreciated against the yen to 3.9965/9052 from yesterday's 4.0103/0190. -- BERNAMA
