Pahang Stingless Bee Honey To Enter Middle East Market

RAUB (Pahang, Malaysia), Oct 10 (Bernama) -- Pahang will soon be exporting stingless bee honey to the Middle East, where the product is recognised for its quality and demand is high. State Cooperative, Entrepreneurship and Consumerism Committe Chairman Shahiruddin Ab Moin said three Middle Eastern companies have signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with the Cooperative Commission of Malaysia (CCM) for the supply and distribution of stingless bee honey to the Middle East. "The MoUs were signed at a halal food festival in Muscat, Oman organised by the Oman Entrepreneurship and Industry Ministry. "They were witnessed by Malaysia's Pahang state Chief Minister Adnan Yaakob who was on a state government mission to Oman recently," he told reporters after opening the district-level National Sport Day here Saturday. "We are confident Pahang can meet the demand when more local residents are encouraged to venture into stingless bee keeping," he said. He said the Federal government will provide a grant totalling US$192,922 (RM800,000 to) 60 young entrepreneurs, including 30 from Bera and 30 from Raub, who could earn about US$602 (RM2,500) a month from just 10 stingless bee hives. Shahiruddin said the CCM will buy and process all the honey produced by the scheme before exporting it. In another development, Shahiruddin said Oman's Entrepreneurship and Industry Minister is expected to visit Pahang in December to have a closer look at the state's stingless bee scheme. -- BERNAMA
