Malaysia's PPZ-MAIWP Holds Seminars To Raise Awareness On Zakat Shares

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's Zakat Collection Centre-Federal territories Islamic Religious Council (PPZ-MAIWP) is collaborating with local equity investment training firms to organise seminars to raise public awareness on zakat (tithe) shares. Its General Manager (Operations), Mohammed Hassan said the seminars were also aimed at finding ways to increase zakat collection, increase the number of payers and promote zakat shares. The PPZ-MAIWP is working with the Asry Ahmad Academy as its founder, Mohd Asri Ahmad is an investment mentor with a large following, Mohammed said on the sidelines of the Mega Share Investment (Stock & Zakat) Seminar 2016 here, Saturday. Those with queries on zakat payment and its calculation can visit the website www.zakat.com.my or call 1300 88 5757. Asry Ahmad Academy director Nirakusukma Sandari Ahmad said the seminars attracted the participation of over 1,200 potential Muslim investors, mostly young people. Bumiputera's involvement in stock investment is rather poor, he said, adding that until June 2016, out of 2.5 million stock investment accounts in the country, 59 per cent were active individual accounts, and of them, only 21.8 per cent was that of Bumiputeras. He said hence, the academy would conduct a roadshow at six places nationwide to promote raise awareness on stock investment among Bumiputeras. PPZ-MAIWP is an agency set up by the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) began operating on Jan 1, 1991 to collect all types of zakat. -- BERNAMA
