Sustainable energy plans discussed

Manama, Oct. 20 (BNA): Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza received Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam bin Abdullah Khalaf along with representatives of the Sustainable Energy Unit and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The two sides discussed future plans and joint action with regard to sustainable energy. The two ministers thanked Bahrain’s leadership and its support to Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) and Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry projects to provide the best and highest quality services to Bahrain’s citizens and residents. They said the support had enabled them to continue with their development plans. Representatives of the Sustainable Development Unit gave a presentation about the unit, its objectives, plans, regulations and legislation and reviewed the National Plan for Energy Efficiency and the National Plan for Renewable Energy. The unit was established in November 2014 as the result of collaboration between the Government of Bahrain, represented by the EWA, and the UNDP. The Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs had then signed an agreement with UNDP to set up the unit, designed to take steps to promote the use of renewable energy and raise the efficiency of energy use in Bahrain.
