Malaysian Firms Lag Behind In End-To-End Cubersecurity Implementation: Fortinet

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- Malaysian companies are lagging behind and failing to implement end-to-end cybersecurity solutions with actionable threat intelligence capabilities to protect against today's security threats, according to a global high-performance cybersecurity solutions firm. Fortinet said its 2016 Fortinet Global Security Survey has revealed that nine per cent of Malaysian respondents reported that they had no knowledge as to whether their organisation was breached over the past 12 months, as compared to three per cent for the Asia Pacific region. Of the more than half (59 per cent) of all Asia Pacific information technology decision makers in the survey who reported a security breach in the last year, only 22 per cent of them discovered this within minutes of the breach occurring. Fortinet also forecast that cybersecurity outsourcing adoption is highest in Singapore (61 per cent), while in Malaysia, the forecast adoption rate is 34 per cent, four per cent lower than the Asia Pacific region. Fortinet said 68 per cent of its Malaysian respondents said the best response to increased security breaches was to develop new policy or procedures that govern access. "Information technology decision makers in Malaysia understandably want more resources to combat threats from all directions, but the answer doesn't have to come in the form of spending more or ripping and replacing existing solutions," said Fortinet Malaysia Country Manager Michelle Ong in a statement on Friday. She added that Fortinet's open, adaptive security fabric shows how enterprises can achieve true end-to-end protection with security capabilities that share intelligence across the entire attack surface. The survey reveals the cybersecurity strategies of information technology decision makers at organisations with more than 250 employees across Asia Pacific, including Malaysia. The results point to increased security gaps and vulnerabilities in spite of widespread fear of security breaches, Fortinet added. --BERNAMA
