SIC Get Greenlight From Malaysian Government To Host MotoGP Next Year
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- The Sepang International Circuit (SIC) has received the greenlight from the Finance Ministry to extend the contract to host the World Motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP).
SIC chief executive officer Razlan Razali said Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak had assured the government’s commitment to extend the contract to host the MotoGP next year.
"A meeting was held between SIC and the Finance Ministry last Thursday and the Prime Minister had assured us of the government's commitment to extend the contract for the MotoGP.
"The SIC will sign the contract next week," he told reporters after meeting SIC Racing Team rider Adam Norrodin and Jakub Kornfeil at the The Aparment, KLCC here Monday.
The SIC will stage the penultimate race of the World Motorcycle GP at the Sepang Circuit ahead of the final race in Valencia, Spain from Nov 11 to 13.
The earlier contract was from 2013 to 2016.
Meanwhile, speaking of the MotoGP this year, Razlan said all the tickets for the penultimate MotoGP race have been sold out, marking a 10 percent increase in response compared with last year.
The race will also see three Malaysian riders in action, namely Moto3 rider Khairul Idham Pawi from Team Idetmitsu Honda, Adam Norrodin (SIC Racing Team) and Moto2 rider Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah (Petronas Raceline Malaysia).
