ECERDC Spends US$49.42 Mln To Upgrade Infrastructure, Facilities In Mersing
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- The East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) has spent US$49.42 million (RM206 million) to upgrade infrastructure and facilities in Mersing and its coastal islands to support tourism-related activities.
ECERDC is a joint effort by the Johor Government and the Federal Government to embark on and deliver holistic tourism and infrastructure projects for Mersing.
In a statement Tuesday, ECERDC Chief Executive Officer, Jebasingam Issace John, said all these initiatives will enhance Mersing's public infrastructure and boost its position as a regional tourism hub.
"Mersing and its surrounding islands are well-positioned to become a great eco-tourism attraction, in line with the 'Rainforest to Reef' concept which seamlessly links all products, assets and development from the Endau-Rompin National Park to the world class beaches, islands and reefs of the coast of Mersing," he said.
ECERDC said a wide range of basic infrastructure upgrades and construction projects had been completed at three of the five surrounding islands in Mersing, namely Pulau Tinggi, Pulau Sibu and Pulau Aur.
The construction of a jetty in Pulau Pemanggil will commence in March 2017, it said.
