Shaikh Khalid supports charity race for the disabled, injured

Manama, Oct. 29 (BNA): His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Athletics Association, holds the opinion that the Kingdom of Bahrain is one of the leading countries in providing care for people with disabilities in various sectors. His Highness stressed that the leadership is providing continuous care to create the appropriate conditions for the youth and encourage them to overcome disability by enhancing their abilities and achieve development in sports for disabled. This came during a meeting held by HH Shaikh Khalid in and attended by Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar, Assistant Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Youth & Sports and Secretary-General of Bahrain Olympic Committee, Shaikh Mohammed bin Daij Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation (BDSF) and several members of the board of directors. The president of BDSF presented a detailed plan on the future programmes and schedule of the federation. The presentation included the Federation's current and past achievements with the different programmes and activities organized by it. In addition, the presentation included the Federation ‘s future, and its plan to integrate people with military injuries in sports for people with disabilities, this programme comes in line with the Federation's direction to be in pace with leading countries that pay great attention to injured people in the military sector. HH Shaikh Khalid praised the efforts of the Federations under the leadership of Shaikh Mohammed that aim to develop this sport through strategies placed by the federation's president and board of directors, and also to create the ideal environment for athletes to participate in competitions abroad and bring in more achievements to the Kingdom of Bahrain. His Highness gave directives to launch a charity race for all people in the community to join in with people with disabilities and injured military personnel. His Highness also stressed on the importance of discovering new talented people with disabilities in schools to integrate them in the Federation and build a base for National teams. His Highness praised the suggestions presented by the Federation, stressing on the importance of implementing the action plan submitted by them. His highness confirmed his support adding that Bahrain has many youth with talents who will advance sports for people with disabilities and raise the name of the Kingdom.
