HRH Princess Sabeeka to patronise conference

Manama, Oct. 15 (BNA): Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), will patronise the Third National Conference for Bahraini Women, set to kick-off on November 1 under the theme “Women and the Law … March and Achievement … Challenges and Aspirations”.
Over 300 participants, including specialists and academicians working in the legal and judicial field, as well as students of law colleges in Bahrain, will attend the conference, held as part of the Bahraini Women’s Day 2016, themed “Bahraini Women in the Legal and Judicial Field”.
The three-day conference is organised by the SCW, in cooperation with the Bahrain Women Union, and with the participation of the relevant official sides, including the Supreme Judicial Council, the Constitutional Court, the Council of Representatives, the Shura Council, the Public Prosecution, the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments and the Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission.
The first session, to be moderated by the Advisor to HRH Princess Sabeeka, Lawyer Lulwa Saleh Al-Awadhi, will focus on impact of family-related legislation on the situation of Bahraini women.
The second session will be held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of the President of Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission, Chancellor Abdulla bin Hassan Al-Buainain. It will focus on legal services and their role in providing opportunities for women to seek redress.
Thursday’s session, to be held under the chairmanship of the President of 6th Court of Appeals, Judge Ibrahim Sultan Al-Zayed, will highlight women’s participation in the legal and judicial field.
A plenary session, conducted by Associate Professor of Private Law Department at the University of Bahrain’s College of Law, Dr. Wafa Yaqoob Janahi, will also be held on the third day. It will review the output of the fifth Legal Forum, hosted by the college earlier this year.
The conference targets Bahraini women from all age groups and social segments, especially those working in the legal and judicial fields, as well as school and university students.
This year’s Bahraini Women’s Day will celebrate Bahraini women in the legal and judicial fields. It aims to highlight and document Bahraini women’s march and success stories since the 1970s. It will also show the role played by legal women in implementing the national reform project and activating policies to integrate women’s needs to ensure the sustainability of their contributions. It will also identify the supporting services provided for women working in this field.
