AFF Futsal Tournament Postponed To January Not Cancelled - AFF Secretary-General

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- The ASEAN Football Federation's (AFF) 2016 AFF Futsal Tournament that was supposed to have kicked off on Oct 31, in Bangkok, Thailand has been postponed to end January next year. AFF secretary-general Azzudin Ahmad when contacted by Bernama Wednesday said in denying reports that the tournament had been cancelled said the venue would be the same (Bangkok, Thailand). "The actual date has not been confirmed yet but it is expected to start on the third week of January," he said. He added that the postponement was necessitated due to the death of Raja Bhumibol Aduyadej, the King of Thailand. Meanwhile, National futsal coach Chiew Chun Yong welcomed the latest clarification from AFF because news had filtered out that the tournament was cancelled. "We will recall the players for training by December. We will also have centralised training for the players to prepare them physically and mentally. The team will also player a number of friendlies in Thailand," he said. Malaysia's best performance in the tournament was a runner-up spot in 2003, 2005 and 2010. -- BERNAMA
