Treasury Dept to issue late King’s commemorative coins
BANGKOK, Nov 4 (TNA) – The Treasury Department plans to issue AEC, BOI coins in commemoration of HM late King Bhumibol Adulyadej for public in all 76 provinces to buy in December.
Chakkrit Parapuntakul, director-general of the department said with high demand of King Bhumibol’s commemorative coins, the department issued a 100-baht package of five coins and now only one million coins are left.
Next week, the department will allocate commemorative coins to 76 provinces. Single coin and a series of three coins, including the Humanitarian Soil Scientist award for the King and the 50th anniversary of his royal rainmaking project and His 80th Birthday Anniversary coin will be available.
The department will also issue the two types of 20-baht nickel coins in commemoration of the late monarch to be released in December after being granted the royal permission. The two types of commemorative coins for the reign of the King Rama 9 to be minted are the Asean Economic Community (AEC) coins and the 50 year of the establishment of the Board of Investment Committee (BOI).
The department is now holding a special exhibition on the coins, produced in the reign of the King Rama 9 at the Queen Sirikit Convention Center.
While people are keeping the coins in commemoration of the late monarch, the department said there would be no shortage of the coins as it could increase coin production by 20 per cent.
The Treasury Department also plans to mint commemorative coins to mark the royal cremation ceremony for His Majesty late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and the King Rama 10 coins. (TNA)
