Foreign minister meets GCC chief, U.K ambassador

Manama, Nov. 6 (BNA): Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, today met in his office at the General Court of the Ministry, the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, and Ambassador of the United Kingdom to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Simon Martin. The meeting was held in the framework of the preparations for the meeting between their Majesties and Highnesses the GCC leaders with the British Prime Minister, Theresa May, set for next December, on the sidelines of the upcoming GCC Leaders’ Summit, in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Minister welcomed Dr. Zayani and Ambassador Simon Martin and expressed pride in the historical UK- GCC relations and their progress at all levels, thanks to shared keenness to diversify the aspects of cooperation and reinforce coordination at international gatherings, affirming that the next period would witness a great momentum and a strong boost for common interests and to preserve world security and peace. Dr. Zayani expressed the GCC countries’ desire to consolidate their ties with all countries of the world, led by the United Kingdom, to avail all sides and reflect positively on regional security and stability. As to the British Ambassador, he expressed his country’s appreciation of the UK-GCC relations, hailing the GCC prime role in underpinning security and stability in the region, settling the problems it faces and working towards achieving the aspirations of the peoples for further advancement and prosperity.
