Bokeo’s rice production more than meets local needs

(KPL) Last year, northern Bokeo province produced 54,000 tons of rice, exceeding local demand, reports the local news source.
Of this figure, 25,800 tons of rice was grown in paddy fields. This year’s average productivity was reported to reach 4.5 tons per hectare.
The annual local demand for rice stands at 51,000 tons. 2008 saw an increase in rice output of 3,000 tons. On average, the province’s per capital rice amounts to 400 kg. The same news source reports that the area used for swidden cultivation in the province was reduced by 100 ha.
