Saudi Ambassador visits King Abdullah Medical City

Manama, Nov. 7 (BNA): Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulmalik Al-Sheikh today paid a visit to the University Medical Center at the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Medical City, at the invitation of President of the Arabian Gulf University, Dr. Khalid bin Abdulrahman Al-Ohali, to inform him of the work progress of the project of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Medical City and details of the new expansion of the University Medical Center as a result of the successes achieved despite the fact that its actual operation was in early 2014. Ambassador Al-Sheikh said that the initiative of the late King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud to build the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Medical City in Bahrain reflects the depth of the Bahraini-Saudi relations, praising the efforts of the officials in charge of the construction of such a large medical institution at the Arabian Gulf University. The expansion work includes the establishment of four general dentistry and aesthetic clinics, a 24-hour emergency department, medical instruments sterilization center, an intensive care unit, as well as increasing the number of after operation recovery rooms to twenty ones. The expansion will also comprise the establishment of specialized heart surgery and childbirth departments. The expansion comes to provide high quality medical services for the patients visiting the center. The University Medical Center occupies an area of 8,000 square meters allocated by HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, while the late Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud directed to allocate SR 1 billion for the construction purpose and to be affiliated to the Arabian Gulf University. It serves as an advanced research and study facility to serve the GCC community as per international standards. It is equipped with the latest medical equipment to compete with the leading Gulf medical centers. The Center's medical staff enjoy long practical experiences and are holders of American and European higher education certificates. The Medical City's hospital comprises 288 beds, medical clinics, medical services building, specialized research centers in the prevailing diseases in the GCC region, including cancer, diabetes and obesity.
