OCM Yet To Finalise List Of Asean Para Games Sports

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 (Bernama) -- The list of competition sports for the Kuala Lumpur ASEAN Para Games next year has not been finalised. Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) vice-president R. Subramaniam said discussions were still ongoing and the decision would be announced Tuesday. "We hope to make the announcement soon as all ASEAN countries involved are still in the process of negotiations. Some sports are still an issue but there are no major problems for a final decision tomorrow (Tuesday). "The meeting is important as we have to hear several appeals from the countries involved before deciding on the final list of 17 types of sports," he told reporters here Monday. Subramaniam said from the 17 types of sports for selection, core sports such as athletics would be listed. Commenting on the medal target for the games next year, he believed national paralympic athletes would be able to improve the results in last year's Singapore Games. Malaysia were placed third in the overall medal tally with 52 gold, 58 silver and 37 bronze medals. --BERNAMA
