SA cancer centre named in Lance's honour

Lance Armstrong will leave a permanent mark in Adelaide. The State Government has announced a new cancer research centre will be called
Livestrong in his honour.

Armstrong, 37, is making his professional cycling comeback this week at Adelaide's
Tour Down Under after a three-year retirement.
He nearly died from testicular cancer in 1996, but won the first of his record seven
straight Tours de France three years later.
Armstrong says the major reason for his comeback is to gain maximum publicity for
his global cancer initiative, which was launched last Monday in Adelaide.
He established the Lance Armstrong Foundation in 1997 and Livestrong is its brand.
The Flinders Medical Centre, south of Adelaide, will open the cancer research
laboratories in 2011.
"It is an honour for the Livestrong name to be associated with SA's plans to build
the state-of-the-art Centre for Innovation in Cancer at Flinders Medical Centre,"
Armstrong said in a statement.
