Government is bent on educational development in rural areas

(KPL) The Lao Government is working hard to develop education and it is expanding schooling facilities to the remote areas, so that for the years 2008-2010, such a policy is being implemented in 72 poor districts and 47 poorest districts in the country.
According to the Steering Committee for National Poverty Reduction and Rural Development, for the year 2009 its target is to increase the percentage of the enrolment rate in primary, lower secondary and upper secondary schools by 91, 68 and 40 per cent respectively.
Commenting on education, National Poverty Reduction and Rural Development Authority, said that its target for 2010 is to get the literacy rate for adults, aged 15 and above to increase to 88 percent.
This authority also said it would improve and expand the network for healthcare services to the rural areas.
Every village should have its own dispensary building by 2010 and the building programme should take this target into consideration, the authority stated.
This authority also asserted that there is a need for the village people to build 500 cultural villages in 2009.
