Verdicts issued in terror case

Manama, Dec. 5 (BNA): Terror Crime Chief Prosecutor Hamad Shahin said the High Court of Appeal issued its verdict today in the case of joining a terror group, funding its members and possessing fire weapons for a terror purpose. The court accepted the appeal of three defendants in form and upheld the challenged sentence. The High Criminal Court had sentenced two defendants to 15 years in jail and a BD 100,000 fine for each. It also handed down five years in prison to three other convicts and ruled the revocation of the Bahraini citizenship of all the defendants and the confiscation of the items found in their possession. One of the convicts, a leading figure in February 14 terror organisation, received training on making explosives and using weapons. He was accused of connection with terrorist elements abroad as well as monitoring and providing materials used in the terrorist operations in Bahrain. He was also charged with funding members of the terror organisation and other affiliated groups as well as coordinating their subversive acts in conjunction with the terrorist elements abroad. The five defendants, including three in custody, were referred to the High Criminal Court and a warrant was issued to arrest those who are still at large. The case was heard by the High Criminal Court which issued its verdict that was upheld by the High Court of Appeal today.
