MDEC's UK Trade Mission Aims To Strenghten Ties In Technology Sector
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Digital Economy Corp Sdn Bhd (MDEC) is participating in a technology trade mission this week in the United Kingdom aimed at strengthening economic, business and trade bonds between the two nations.
In a statement Thursday, MDEC said the visit from Dec 6 to 9 is supported by the UK Department for International Trade (DIT), following bilateral discussions between the countries since June.
As part of the trade mission, MDEC signed three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) -- with PGI Cyber Security, Future Cities Catapult and the University of Salford.
The MoU with PGI was on collaboration to strengthen and develop Malaysia's cybersecurity capacity, and to work together to develop a cybersecurity academy in Malaysia.
The MoU with Future Cities Catapult was to confirm an exchange and partnership programme for the UK/Malaysian Smart Cities projects, while the MoU with the University of Salford was to commit to research and development information exchange, focusing particularly on data analytics, IoT and cyber security.
"The DIT has been extremely supportive, and we are looking forward to further strengthening the relationship between the two nations.
"We are excited to be signing MoUs with innovative UK organisations and building opportunities with the UK's growing technology sector," said Chief Executive Officer, Yasmin Mahmood.
Malaysia is the UK's second largest trading partner in ASEAN with bilateral trade reaching 4.4 billion Sterling pound in 2015, and this figure expected to be significantly larger by the end of 2016, said MDEC.
