MCT Cable System To Be In Service By Q1 2017

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 13 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia-Cambodia-Thailand (MCT) submarine cable laying works are expected to be completed and in service by the first quarter (Q1) of 2017. In a statement Tuesday, Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) said, the 1,300-kilometre cable system, represented another major step towards enhancing Association of South-East Asian Nations' connectivity. The MCT submarine cable system laying works commenced in Cherating, Pahang and will link cable landing stations in Rayong (Thailand) and Sihanoukville (Cambodia), it said. "It is also a significant milestone for Cambodia as it will be Cambodia's first cable system," it said. TM, a well-experienced investor in the domestic, regional and global submarine cable development and investments, owned and leased over 20 submarine cable systems spanning more than 200,000 fibre-route miles around the globe. "TM provides connectivity via several routes across Asia-Pacific and North America," it said. TM is also a member of various submarine cable system consortiums including Asia-America Gateway Cable Network and South-East Asia-West Asia-Western Europe Cable System 3. -- BERNAMA
