Kazakhstan to start working in UN Security Council from January

From January 1, 2017, Kazakhstan will officially become the non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. Kazakhstan’s delegation will be part of in the key international organization’s main body for two years. As a member of the Security Council, Kazakhstan will represent the interests of the whole Central Asia and intends to draw the attention of the global community to the regional problems. During the voting in the General Assembly, Kazakhstan received the support of 138 member-countries of the UN, bypassing the other contenders.
KASSYM-JOMART TOKAYEV, CHAIRMAN OF SENATE, UPPER HOUSE OF KAZAKH PARLIAMENT:
Kazakhstan will be a non-permanent member of the Security Council in the next two years, enabling the country to put forward its agenda in this key UN body. Our country will be able to vote in the UN Security Council on the main problems of the modern world.
The Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Lamberto Zannier stresses that Kazakhstan’s election to the UN Security Council is proof of recognition of Kazakhstan’s role by the international community, not only in the region but also globally.
LAMBERTO ZANNIER, OSCE SECRETARY GENERAL:
I keep saying in the OSCE the legacy of Kazakhstan is the basis of everything we are doing; the idea of creating a community, security community is what should guide us for the future especially now that there are so many divisions in this community. So I think Kazakhstan is looking back in the chairmanship should inspire us to find a way to overcome the problems.
Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin says that he was confident in Kazakhstan’s win in joining the UN Security Council.

Kazakhstan will work in the UN Security Council. I am sure that this will be a great success, and Kazakhstan’s diplomacy will become even more remarkable on the international arena. This is a very important step in the history of Kazakhstan’s diplomacy. Kazakhstan has gained a better visibility and larger presence internationally.
Kazakhstan’s membership in the UN Security Council will become a stabilizing factor for the whole world, experts and politicians say. Meanwhile, the states of South America and the Caribbean region intend to strengthen cooperation with Kazakhstan.
