Four more trains for travellers to South

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, Jan 8 (TNA) - As severe flooding is battering the southern region, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has decided to add four more trains from Bangkok to Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Thung Song district daily to facilitate travellers heading for the South. Tanongsak Pongprasert, deputy governor of SRT said earlier the SRT operated only four trains to the South daily, down from 11 trains due to the severe flood in Nakhon Si Thammarat and neighbouring provinces. However, trains from Bangkok can travel up to Thung Song station only and it is not possible to run further due to the flood situation, said Mr. Tanongsak. He said flooding situation has inflicted worst damages to the SRT in the past decade and it has already lost more than 10 million baht in revenue. Meanwhile, after Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport announced temporary closure due to the flood, Daroon Saengchai, director-general of Airports Department, said flood on runways has receded. An electric system at the runway will be inspected by officials to ensure it passes the safety standard before the airport can resume operations. (TNA)
